	METROPOLITAN RUST PROOFING BECOME ONE OF THE RARE QUÉBEC-BASED COMPANIES WITH DUAL ISO CERTIFICATION

The company is certified both ISO 9001 (2000) and ISO 14 001 (2004).

Metropolitan Rust Proofing, the only Quebec company dedicated solely to anticorrosion products and services for motor vehicle owners, holds a very rare double feat: it received certification for two International Management Standards. It obtained both the ISO 9001 standard (2000 version) and the ISO 14 001 standard (2004 version), relating to quality (9001) and the environment (14 001) respectively. Additionally, this certification applies not only to the head office in Trois-Rivières (Saint-Louis-de-France) but to the entire organisation, including all 11 locations in Quebec and Ontario.

Bruno St-Onge, President and Co-Founder of the family business, was proud to congratulate all Metropolitan Rust Proofing employees for this remarkable achievement and had this to say: “From now on, thanks to the ISO 9001 standard, Quebec vehicle owners looking to extend the life of their car or truck with one of our treatments may rest assured that they will receive the best service, regardless of the location they choose. As for the ISO 14 001 standard, it commits us to ensure that our rust proofing solution, an oil-based product proven for over 30 years, and perfected by OLEOTEK collegiate research centre, is applied in such a way as to considerably reduce its effects on the environment.”

As a result of these certifications, Metropolitan Rust Proofing employees must adhere to a series of new procedures. Among others, in terms of the ISO 9001quality standard, these include: a manual for the drilling of doors and undercarriages during the vehicle treatment process, the continuous monitoring of antirust oil application, and the comprehensive analysis of customer satisfaction.

In terms of the ISO 14 001 environmental standard, the company aims to exceed even the most stringent government standards.  “Through improved waste management, the recovery of a large portion of our used oil, improved waste water treatment, and preventive maintenance on our equipment, we will exceed these standards”, explains Christine Champoux, Environment and Quality Systems Coordinator for Metropolitan Rust Proofing.

It is very rare for a company to obtain certification for two ISO standards at the same time. “In Québec and Ontario, the number of companies with dual ISO certification can be counted on one hand”, indicates Michel Lajoie, Systems Registration Consultant at Bureau de Normalisation du Québec (BNQ). Adding: “Metropolitan Rust Proofing is also unique in that all of their business outlets have obtained dual certification, and not just one or two specific locations. What’s more, it is quite rare for an SME to comply with the ISO 14 001 environmental standard, which is typically intended for large businesses such as pulp and paper manufacturers, energy plants, etc.”.

Metropolitan Rust Proofing celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006. Established in the Saint-Louis-de-France  by brothers Laurier and Bruno St-Onge in 1976, the company expanded rapidly following its inception in Saint-Louis-de-France. Today, it has 11 locations in Quebec and Ontario and employs some 200 people serving a vast clientele of corporations and individuals.

The ISO 9001 standard is a set of internationally recognised quality management standards. These standards are aimed ensuring the continuous improvement of processes (in our case, those used in antirust treatments) as well as consistent quality.

For our valued customers, this means that each vehicle is treated using the exact same process to ensure the strictest quality control and allowing us to provide our customers with the same quality service every time, regardless of client traffic or time of day. What’s more, the same management standards are used in all our locations, which must adhere to the same quality requirements. This allows our clients to visit any one of our locations knowing that they will receive the same quality service.

	ISO 14001

ISO 14 001 is a series of management standards relating to the environment. In order to comply with these standards, the company must identify the impacts it has on the environment (i.e. water pollution, soil contamination) and progressively bring them under control. Objectives are defined and action plans are implemented to ensure theses targets are achieved. As such, the system allows us to continuously improve our processes and systematically reduce the impacts they have on the environment.
